The technological innovation of a region is the basis for the growth of every company in it, in a close exchange of know-how and collaborations. That is why every new initiative in the field of research bodes well for the future. Especially when it comes to reusing facilities otherwise in a state of semi-abandonment.
In the area of the old Expo in Milan, work is proceeding on a new initiative, Mind Innovation District, designed for the development of biomedical and technological research and to support start-ups in collaboration with the city’s Polytechnic and many corporate entities, active mainly in the biotechnology-pharmaceutical and hospital fields.
For ten years new companies have significant funds at hand and investments not only in the university world: the plan, wrote the Italian newspaper Il Sole24Ore, would support the financing of «50 proof of concept and 40 start-ups focused on gene and cell therapies».
The immediate positive aspect is the rehabilitation of the former Expo pavilions with plans, among other things, to create coworking desks, offices and laboratories, available from September 2023 and already almost fully booked.
The longer-term one is the collaboration between companies and human resources from different sectors, which intends to create added value on several levels over several years.
