When people talk about sustainability, they immediately think of a company’s impact on the environment, but in reality it concern the entire value system, including staff growth and territory.
The job market has changed as green professions have grown not only from the point of view of skills in the field of environmental sustainability but also from the point of view of the qualities that young talents seek and would like from a job. No longer the “safe” one but the “right” one, considering its ethics.
Companies are increasingly hiring people who are capable of tracking consumption, for example energy and sustainability managers, purchasing managers, project managers trained in energy, raw materials and sustainability, and who meet engagement requirements useful for improving the workplace.
In fact, in the coming years it will be important to consider three directions of growth: researching critical energy and production issues, planning for the future between now and 2050, and transformation.
Since balancing life and work has become a key parameter of choice for more or less experienced workers, people are no longer just looking for good pay. Employment becomes an expression of personality and an investment in the future, including continuing education with a view to growth, of the company and the employee.
In addition to the environment, attention to the local area, inclusion in services and diversification become a key focus for each company’s goals.
They want a general improvement in the quality of work, in the direction of reducing gaps related to gender and generations, but also externally, to improve the impact on the communities to which they belong by fostering fluid supply chains and the social aspect.
This might seem like too big an investment with no return for a small- to medium-sized company, but this is not the case: in fact, it has been shown that commitment, not only in terms of savings (of water, energy, raw materials…) but also in terms of people’s well-being, boosts productivity.
Enterprises that are more socially engaged turn out to be more profitable, attract talented and well-qualified staff, and forge long-term working relationships in addition to being more competitive because they build a good reputation and establish fruitful relationships in the local area.
