When one thinks of launching satellites, the first image that comes to mind is of massive rockets streaking across the sky amid flames and smoke. But a startup in New Mexico is about to change those rules with a different, more sustainable approach.

SpinLaunch uses centrifugal force and a giant vacuum chamber to launch satellites into orbit, offering an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative to traditional rockets.

At the heart of this technology is an innovative structure that houses a huge vacuum chamber.

Inside, a mechanical arm rotates the satellite until it reaches the impressive speed of 7,400 km/h precisely because of the vacuum and the total absence of air that would generate friction.

When the satellite touches this speed, it is launched through a long tube into space. And once outside the atmosphere, a small gas engine kicks into action, helping the satellite complete its journey to orbit.

To date, SpinLaunch has already carried out 10 successful test launches, demonstrating the feasibility and efficiency of the system. For that matter, the benefits are there for all to see.

For starters, the system allows for up to 10 launches per day, far exceeding the logistical limitations of conventional rockets. Thanks to the technology used, satellites can be launched in all weather conditions, ensuring continuity and reliability. In addition, SpinLaunch cuts emissions by 95 percent compared to traditional rockets, which consume up to 15,000 gallons of fuel per second. The use of a small gas engine to complete the launch eliminates much of the complexity and cost associated with traditional propulsion systems.

With the ability to launch satellites at reduced cost and with minimal environmental impact, this technology could pave the way for new applications, from global connectivity to space infrastructure creation.

The company plans to begin the first commercial launches within the next five years, and if this technology proves its reliability, it could revolutionize our relationship with space.
